Why do we do this?
Vision
Empower and Educate women and children of the Dalit & marginalized communities
Mission
Setting up learning centers where we empower the needy through education, research, and training/publications. We believe networking and collaborating with like-minded people & organizations is the way to maximize the impact.
How it all started
In September 2021, the above horrific incident unfolded in Saidabad.
It shook people from both the Telugu states, making national news as well. Politicians, actors, celebrities, and every common man reacted.
A few days later as the perpetrator died in a controversial way, people celebrated calling it 'Justice Served'.
But
Is Justice really served with the death?
Are women & children really safe in these spaces now?
To us, the root cause still remains unaddressed. Reality is not too far. Look what happened days later
And only a year later in the very slum of Saidabad
When Prof. Sujatha Surepally visited the slum after the 2021 incident, she was moved by the circumstances. She decided to look into the root cause and decided to help make it a crime-free space for the marginalized. She noticed the following Vicious cycle that people from the locality are falling into.
The same has been happening for 2-3 generations. She felt that if this self-perpetuating chain could be broken, it would end up saving a few generations from falling into the rabbit hole of illiteracy and the increase in the crime rate that follows. That's when she founded this Dalit Women's Collective (DWC) and started it in the same place, Singareni Colony of Saidabad.
